Women's Livelihoods

Every other programme we run gets easier when a household has income it can predict. Women's Livelihoods builds that income through village savings groups, a trade, and a small amount of capital at the right moment.

What the programme actually does.

Village savings and loan groups

Groups of 20 to 30 women save weekly, lend to each other and share out at the end of the cycle. We train the group and supply the lockbox and ledger.

A trade she chooses

Tailoring, hairdressing, produce trading, baking or poultry, selected by the woman and taught over twelve weeks.

Start-up capital

A one-off grant on completion, released against a simple business plan the group reviews together.

Market linkage

Introductions to buyers, bulk input purchasing and help with trading licences.

$90 covers a skills course and start-up grant for one woman.

The other three programmes

Every programme runs on someone deciding to fund it.
