Girls in School

Girls in our districts drop out for ordinary, solvable reasons: a term of fees, a missing uniform, a week of absence every month. Girls in School removes those reasons one at a time and stays with each girl until she sits her exams.

Children sitting together on a mat outdoors, reading and writing in exercise books.

What the programme actually does.

Fees and scholastic materials

Termly fees, uniform, books and exam registration, paid directly to the school and receipted.

Menstrual health kits

Reusable pads, underwear and a private changing space at the school, plus sessions for boys so the subject stops being a reason to stay home.

Mentors who check in

Every girl is paired with a woman from her own community who visits the school each term and follows up on absences.

Back-to-school tracing

When a girl stops attending, we visit the household within two weeks and negotiate her return.

$120 covers one full year of fees, uniform and materials for one girl.
