Acute malnutrition is treatable in weeks. Staying well is the harder part. We treat the child in front of us and then work with the household so the same child is not back six months later.

What the programme actually does.
Community screening
Monthly mid-upper arm circumference screening at parish level, so children are found before they need inpatient care.
Therapeutic feeding
Ready-to-use therapeutic food and weekly weight checks for children with severe acute malnutrition, referred onward when they need a ward.
Cooking with what is local
Group sessions on preparing balanced meals from what already grows nearby: silverfish, groundnut paste, orange sweet potato, dodo and beans.
Kitchen gardens
Seed, tools and a season of agronomy support so a household can grow part of its own answer.
$65 covers a full eight-week course of therapeutic feeding for one child.
